To achieve this, we worked with our data scientists to analyze the mathematical formula for happiness* in the context of working at Empirica. The model’s findings indicate that our joy at work is influenced not only by our expectations but also by the sense of fairness and satisfaction of those around us. Consequently, we prioritize fostering good relationships within our team, ensuring fair evaluation and rewards, and cultivating an atmosphere free from internal rivalries and focused on collective goals.

Model interpretation

Research shows that our happiness is always measured in the context of our surroundings. We can generalize the formula proposed by the researchers, informally, as follows:

Happiness = w0 + w1 [our earned successes] +w2 [the average dose of random luck/farthing] + w3 [our excess luck] + w4 [how much better off we are than the environment] + w5 [how much worse off we are than the environment],

Where w0, w1,…, w5 are coefficients that depend strictly on our personality, expressing how much weight each component of the model has for us.

This pattern takes an individual form for each of us – depending on our heritage, character, our environment and the element of random luck or bad luck. In particular, it can also depend on our work environment. Undervaluing our work or giving unjustified bonuses to other employees can inspire feelings of jealousy and injustice that disrupt our level of happiness. On the other hand, our earning a raise or promotion “by taking a shortcut” or at the expense of another employee can lower our level of happiness through guilt. We maximize our level of happiness in an environment where both our and our colleagues’ work is fairly evaluated and rewarded, and the team atmosphere is not dominated by rivalry and individual goals.

Initial phone call

We want to introduce ourselves, get to know each other better and tell you about what we do. For you, this is a good time to tell something about yourself, what you are looking for in your professional life and what your needs are. It’s also a great time to ask questions.

Step 2

Technical interview

This is the time to test your skills and feedback on what your undoubted strengths are. We use a GoogleMeet call for this purpose. If the need arises to elaborate on anything, we will ask you to do a little homework. After this stage, we always come back with feedback.

Step 3

Decision

If we decide that you are the one to come on board our company, we will call you and tell you the terms of the offer and arrange a time for you to make a decision. However, if we want to work with someone else, you will get feedback from us.

Step 4

Start of cooperation
